This Privacy Policy describes how BetaReader Sweden AB ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Grafter application ("Grafter" or the "App"). By using Grafter, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create a Grafter account, we collect your email address and display name. If you sign up through a third-party provider (e.g., Apple Sign-In), we receive the information you authorize that provider to share.

Writing Data

Grafter stores your stories, chapters, and scenes so they can be synced across your devices. We also record aggregate writing statistics such as word counts and session durations to power the screen time earn mechanic.

Screen Time & Device Permissions

On iOS, Grafter uses Apple's Screen Time API (Family Controls / Managed Settings) to block and unblock apps on your device. We do not collect or transmit any information about which apps are installed on your device, nor do we monitor your app usage. The screen time functionality runs entirely on-device using Apple's privacy-preserving framework.

Usage Data

We may collect anonymized usage data such as feature interactions, crash reports, and device type to improve the App. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.

How We Use Your Information

• To provide, maintain, and improve the Grafter service
• To sync your writing data across devices
• To calculate and manage your earned screen time
• To process subscriptions and payments (via Apple App Store / RevenueCat)
• To send service-related communications (e.g., account verification)
• To analyze anonymized usage patterns and fix bugs

Third-Party Services

Grafter relies on the following third-party services:

• Apple Screen Time API — Used on-device to manage app restrictions. No data is sent to our servers.
• Apple App Store / RevenueCat — Handles subscription billing. We do not store your payment information.
• BetaReader.io — If you choose to sync a draft to BetaReader, your manuscript content is transferred to your BetaReader account. BetaReader's own Privacy Policy applies to that data.
• Firebase / Analytics — May be used for crash reporting and anonymized analytics.

Data Storage & Security

Your writing data is stored securely in cloud infrastructure within the EU. We use encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest to protect your information. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your data, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.

Data Retention

We retain your account and writing data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we are legally required to retain it.

Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the right to:

• Access and receive a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Rectify any inaccurate personal data
• Request deletion of your personal data
• Object to or restrict the processing of your data
• Data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format

Children's Privacy

Grafter is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. You are advised to review this page periodically.
